Global Talent Visa
The Global Talent visa is for highly skilled individuals in fields such as science, engineering, humanities, medicine, digital technology, and the arts. Applicants must be endorsed by an approved UK body as a recognised leader or emerging leader. This visa offers flexibility, does not require a job offer, and can lead to settlement in as little as three years. Dependants can join you.
Overview
The Global Talent visa is designed for individuals who are leaders or potential leaders in academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology. It provides a flexible route to live and work in the UK without the need for sponsorship or a job offer. The visa replaces the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) route.
Applicants must receive an endorsement from an approved endorsing body unless they have an eligible prize or are applying under a fast-track pathway. The visa can lead to settlement after 3 or 5 years depending on your achievements and endorsement type.
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible for the Global Talent visa if you work in one of the following fields:
- – Academia or research (including science, engineering, medicine, social science)
- Arts and culture (including film, television, fashion design, architecture)
- Digital technology
Applicants must
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be endorsed by an approved UK endorsing body, or hold an eligible prize
- Meet character and immigration suitability requirements
Endorsement Requirement
The specific criteria for endorsement vary depending on your field of expertise and whether you are applying as an established leader (Exceptional Talent) or an emerging leader (Exceptional Promise). Each endorsing body sets its own detailed requirements tailored to the nature of the sector. Applicants must ensure they meet the criteria relevant to their discipline and endorsement path.
There are two endorsement categories:
- Exceptional Talent – For applicants who are already recognised as leaders in their field
- Exceptional Promise – For applicants who show potential to become leaders
Endorsements are granted by one of several approved bodies such as:
- UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
- Arts Council England
- Tech Nation (for digital technology – subject to replacement post-2024)
- The British Academy, Royal Society, or Royal Academy of Engineering
Applicants may also bypass endorsement if they hold a prestigious award from a recognised list published by the Home Office.
